Nine People Have Been Found Dead in a Mass Murder in Canada.

The bodies of nine people, including two children, have been found at three separate crime scenes in the Canadian city of Edmonton, Alberta in what police are calling a “mass murder.”Seven bodies — including three women, two men and two young children — were found in the same house.

The body of a middle-aged woman was found at another residence in the city.

The suspect’s body was found in a restaurant in Fort Saskatchewan. He is believed to have killed himself.

Edmonton’s police chief Rod Knecht said the killings were related and that there was no risk to the general public.

First Back-to-Back Oscar Winner Luise Rainer Dies at 104

Luise Rainer, the first person ever to win consecutive Oscars, has died, She was 104 years old.

Her daughter, Francesca Knittel-Bowyer, said that Rainer passed away from pneumonia at her home in London. "She was bigger than life and [could] charm the birds out of the trees," her daughter said. "If you saw her, you'd never forget her."

Rainer first rose to fame in the 1930s, with roles in films like The Great Ziegfeld and The Good Earth, for which she won the Best Actress in a Leading Role Academy Awards in 1937 and 1938, respectively. She worked more sporadically from 1940 to 1965, eventually moving away from Hollywood

In 1984, she returned to the spotlight to appear on an episode of The Love Boat. Her last role, according to IMDb, was in the 1997 movie The Gambler, which starred Michael Gambon and Dominic West. 

Per the AP, Rainer is survived by her daughter, whom she welcomed during her marriage to the late Robert Knittel, and two granddaughters.?

Mechanic Stabs Man for Pinging while Driving in Lagos.

A mechanic, Olajide Olaniran, has stabbed a 34-year-old man, Julius Joseph, for allegedly pinging on the road while driving in the Ijaiye area of Lagos State.

Punch gathered that Joseph was returning from a bank in the area to withdraw money when Olaniran, who was in a Toyota Corolla, blocked the road and accused him of pinging and driving.
It was, however, learnt that Joseph was checking an alert he received on his phone when the incident occurred.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Joseph challenged the 42-year-old mechanic for driving against the traffic and both men alighted from their cars.

Following an altercation between the two, Olaniyan, who hails from Ibadan, Oyo State, allegedly used a bottle to stab Joseph after which he made off with his (Joseph’s) two phones and N5,000.

The victim reportedly slumped at the spot having lost much blood. He was said to have been rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, and was later referred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi for intensive care.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspect was arrested after the incident was reported at the Meiran Police Station.

A prosecutor, Lugard Ahonle, subsequently brought him before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ijaiye on five counts bordering on assault and stealing.

The charges read in part, “That you, Olajide Olaniran, on October 8, 2014 at about 5pm at Jolaco Filling Station, Obadeyi, Ijaiye, Lagos State, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did assault one Julius Joseph, by beating him up for challenging you while driving against the traffic with your Toyota Corolla saloon car.

“That you, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did attempt to kill one Julius Joseph by stabbing him severally on his two hands over an argument between the two of you.

“That you did steal a Samsung iPhone valued at N60,000, Q10 BlackBerry valued at N98,000 and a sum of N5,000, property of one Julius Joseph.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences, which the police said contravened sections 55, 170, 243, 285, 404, Vol. 44 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. T. Akani, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akani adjourned the case till January 26, 2015 for mention.

Bloated bodies and debris seen floating in Indonesian waters Tuesday painfully ended the mystery of AirAsia Flight 8501, which crashed into the Java Sea with 162 people aboard and took more than two days to find, despite a massive international search.
 The low-cost carrier vanished Sunday halfway through a two-hour flight between Surabaya, Indonesia, and Singapore after encountering storm clouds. 

On Tuesday, with dozens of planes, helicopters and ships looking for the aircraft, searchers discovered what appeared to be a life jacket and an emergency exit door. Part of the plane's interior, including an oxygen tank, was brought to the nearest town, Pangkalan Bun, along with a bright blue plastic suitcase that appeared to be in perfect condition.

These photographs show debris from what could be the wreckage of Flight QZ8501.

The pictures were taken by a photographer from French news agency Agence France-Press from a search aircraft 105 miles off the coast of Pangkalanbun, Indonesia.

According to AFP, the items resemble a plane door and an emergency slide.

The debris was spotted by a search aircraft flying at an altitude of 500 feet off Pangkalanbun.

"These look like items that are not usually seen on sea surface."

Indonesian family who had been scheduled to take the missing Air Asia flight has told how they narrowly missed boarding after cancelling their holiday the day before.

Chandra Susanto was booked on flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore with his wife Inge Ferdiningsih and three children Christopher,10, Nadine, seven, and Felix, five, when his father became ill and they postponed the trip.

“It was a difficult decision to make because my son Christopher was so disappointed. He had been looking forward to the holiday for a long time,” Mr Susanto said.

Christopher cried when the family cancelled the four-day trip as the family had planned a visit to a water theme park.

The family had only heard about the missing flight when his sister called to see whether he and his wife were safe.

“I found out about the flight when my sister called me. She was so scared. She had seen the news on tv,” Mr Susanto told the Daily Mail Australia.

The family of five were among the 23 passengers who had booked seats on the flight but had failed to show.

Mr Susanto said while he was relieved to not have been on the flight, they were still extremely concerned about those still on board.

“I am very thankful to God for his mercy for me and my family. But I am so sad and very sorry for the people on the plane,” he said.

The flight was carrying 155 passengers on board, including 16 children and one infant.

AirAsia Flight QZ 8501 with 162 on board goes missing on way to Singapore.

The search is on for an AirAsia passenger jet carrying 162 people that lost contact with Indonesian air traffic control early Sunday, gripping Southeast Asia

with a second missing plane crisis in less than a year.

Before communication was lost, a pilot on AirAsia Flight QZ 8501 asked to deviate from its planned route -- from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore -- because of bad weather, officials said.

The aircraft went missing as it flew over the Java Sea between the islands of Belitung and Borneo, according to Indonesian authorities, who are leading the search and rescue operations.Of the people on board the Airbus A320-200, 155 are Indonesian, three are South Korean, one is British, one is French, one is Malaysian and one is Singaporean, the airline said.

Seventeen children, including one infant, are among the passengers, the carrier said. Seven of the people on board are crew members.

At the airport in Surabaya, loved ones gathered and wept as they waited for any word on the passengers.Some took cell phone pictures of a flight manifest posted on a wall. 

The black-and-white papers showed every passenger's name and seat number,but not their fate.Others simply sat and dabbed tears from their eyes."Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We must stay strong," AirAsia Chief Executive Tony Fernandes said on Twitter. 

He later announced he was traveling to Surabaya, saying most of the passengers are from there.As word spread of the missing plane, the airline changed the color of its logo on its website and social media accounts from red to gray.
